Experience of Establishing HSE Department

Summary of Tasks Achieved while Establishing HSE Depart by SAAD ABDUL WAHAB

Summary of tasks performed throughout establishing the HSE department in INDUS PHARMA (PVT) LTD.

  1. Complete organization of HSE Department in IIPP, Fire Safety, Housekeeping & Environmental sections, I personally designed all Job descriptions of HSE Staff.
  2. IIPP (Injury & Illness Prevention Program),
  3. Worked onProgram For Industrial Sustainable Development (PISD-II) by NEC.
  4. Safety protocols & access codes for OSHA classified Inflammables & Combustibles,
  5. First Aid Program and nomination of departmental First Aiders,
  6. Fire Safety Trainings and Floor Evacuation Drills as per Floor Emergency Plan.
  7. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Eye wash, Safety mirrors & Safety shower.
  8. Fire Safety Equipment Installations like, Fire Alarms, Smoke detectors,
  9. Complete fire safety plan including Fire Extinguishers and Hydrants with respect to the anticipated hazard occupancy,
  10. Developed Electric panels and forklift safety plans after attending workshop on Electrical Safety Requirements for Workplaces to Avoid Fire Hazards.,
  11. Floor Emergency plan, Emergency directives, RACE & PASS procedure practices.
  12. Emergency response system, Emergency preparedness planning,
  13. Safety sign boards installation and demarcation of areas under construction,
  14. Arranged and conducted Safety awareness Trainings & presentations,
  15. Daily safety visits to assess the potential hazards.
  16. I also worked on Ergonomics and intangible asset safety with IT Department.
  17. Safety documentation, HSE related SOPs and Safety Assessment checklists,
  18. I also made the Company Safety Policy, Incident investigation and HSE forms.
  19. Industrial Hygiene and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) including termite control, fumigations,General Spray, Thermal Fogging, Cold Fogging, Gel Treatment, Rodent Control, Bait Stations / Glue Station / Mechanical Traps and HSE Compliance etc.
  20. Segregation of Lab Chemicals as per reactivity and sensitivity.
  21. Maintaining SOPs, MSDS, MOMs, Training records, CAPA and IIPP Documents etc.
  22. Internal Safety meetings with Engineering Department, Department Safety Coordinators, Designated Fire men, Head of Labors Union, Management representative, HR, MD & Director Plant Operations,
  23. Meetings with Fire Safety Companies, Fumigation Companies, Chemical Suppliers etc.
  24. Attended Health and Safety Workshops and Seminars of KATI (Korangi Association of Trade & Industries), Labor Department, Govt. of Pakistan and Federal Civil Defence,
  25. Implemented the safety codes of Checklists of KATI, Drug Regulatory Authority, EPA and Labor department checklists, also intended to meet the regulations of FACTORIES ACT 1934,SIND FACTORIES RULES 1975 and Environmental Protection Agency Sindh.
  26. Arranged in house safety awareness trainings of Civil Defence, and SGS certified trainers, Designed annual trainings schedule of in-house, Civil Defence and NILAT trainings.
  27. Updating managers with HSE policies by provision of Standard Safety Literature, Safety advisory tips, continual improvements, Presentations, Safety videos etc.
  28. Worked with HR and Maintenance depart, for confidential and Hazardous waste management and pretreatment of waste disposal, Also worked to meet EPA requirements,
  29. Recordkeeping of up to date status of Hydrants, Fire Extinguishers, Water Reservoirs, First Aid Boxes, PPE and Special protective equipment like Safety showers, Eye wash portable basins, Safety mirrors, Fire Blankets, Respirators, Helmets, Trainings, Orientations etc.
  30. Attended internal audits and audit by Tanzanian Customer.
  31. Delivered outdoor Safety presentations as a guest speaker, like in DACCT-KU.
